workouts 1/13 – 1/19: how often do you rest?

by Danica on January 19, 2013

It was another really great week as far as workouts go.  I ran 22 miles, did yoga twice, had a few strength training sessions (full body), a serious climb on the stairs machine, and even a walk outside on Friday evening!
I haven’t had a complete rest day in a while though so tomorrow (Sunday) is going to be a full day of no working out.  Sometimes those days are really hard for me mentally but I know my body needs that right now so I have to stick to the plan…
How often do you take a full rest day?

I hope you’re all having a great weekend!

I rarely take complete rest days with NO exercise whatsoever. Maybe 1 or 2 times a month, which is usually determined by my travels…but then again, on many of those days I either end up walking a lot or at least lifting and carrying my backpack around that is a workout itself ;-) Now I do have easier days when I only do 30-60 mins of pilates, no walking, no running, no nothing else, but sitting around all day, so only a little pilates feels like nothing. (Normally I run 4x a week for a total of 40 mpw, do pilates 3x a week and walk around quite a bit most days, not for exercise, but it is still moving, being active.) On the other hand, when I was in college track or marathon-training (60-70 miles/week) I did make sure to take 1 day off every week but for sure every other week since my daily training was quite rigorous.

You’re workouts are so good :) I run four times a week and do a Pilates class and sometimes manage to squeeze a bit of strength training in (like 20mins that’s all). So I usually get at least one or two rest days. I think it’s important to let your body heal and grow. And make the next workout amazing!

I am all about at least one rest day per week wether my body says so or not!
Yey for the stair master! It’s by far my favorite cardio outside of running but feel like it gets overlooked.

I totally agree about the stair master! I have a love/hate relationship with the thing ;)
I need to start making sure I take a full rest day per week too, whether my body (mind, usually) says so or not!
