pics from the weekend: new furniture and a Christmas tree

by Danica on November 19, 2012

We’re back to Monday again!  Did everyone have a good weekend?  I love that this is a short work week.

I got over 8 hours of sleep each night this weekend, and wow did it make me realize I have to keep that up throughout the weekdays–it’s too important to let those hours slip around 7 or less.

Here are some pictures from the weekend:

Friday

I had a little appetizer before dinner — a Justin’s organic peanut butter cup.  And yes, those things are amazing.  Could someone send me some of the dark chocolate ones asap, please?!

I had a terrible headache all day on Friday (it has yet to go away actually), and all I did that night was lay on the couch, catch up on Ellen, read a little, and then crawl into bed early.

Saturday

J and I dominated the errands we needed to run that day.

We started off the day by having a pancake breakfast (okay that part was just me) and getting in a workout at the gym.  Our first errand was dropping my car off to get its oil changed–don’t worry, they only diagnosed 3 other major problems with it (cue eye roll).  Bleh.  I hate going to car dealerships because I have no idea what they’re talking about and I have a car that’s literally falling apart :-/

We picked up a little Caribou before heading to the furniture store!  I had the Sparkling Peach Black Tea (I love this stuff and would drink it every day).  The caffeine made my headache go away for at least an hour or two.

We had a successful visit to the furniture store!  We’re slowly adding pieces to our house (it’s a process, but we prefer to pay for it right up front and avoid any payment plans, which means we need to take some time between big purchases for saving, of course).  This weekend we bought this entertainment center for our living room (this is the model setup in the store) plus 2 standing floors lamps for the same room!  They’ll be delivered on Saturday and we can’t wait!

Our town just opened a Costco so we went to explore!  Ummm… WOW.  I don’t even know what else to say about the place….We found a bunch of samples (Jesse practically ate lunch there :) and we’re really tempted to buy a membership card.

Does anyone have a Costco membership??  Is it worth it/would you recommend getting one??

We went to Target and explored the Christmas section….This candy bar (?) is supposed to be a stocking stuffer!!?!  It was bigger than Jesse’s head and the whole package contained over 2400 calories bahaha This picture just makes me laugh because we about had a giggle fit in the aisle looking through all of the Christmas “stocking stuffer candy” :)

We bought our first Christmas tree :)  I’m so excited to set it up next weekend!

Homemade Apple Crisp for dessert…I made up my own recipe and made 2 servings (in ramekins) that turned out to be deeelicious.

Sunday

I did this DVD for the first time in a loooong time.  Talk about humbling…It was a great reminder to switch up my workouts.

just a gorgeous Sunday evening sunset (of course, the picture doesn’t do it justice)

I love award shows.  Did you see P!nk’s performance?!  I loved hers–she’s so strong!  I have to admit that Taylor Swift did a fantastic job too.

Have you started decorating for Christmas yet?

Did you watch the AMAs?  What was your favorite performance?

I have the AMA’s on DVR and hope to watch it today. I will probably skip through the actual awards just to see the performances that I like.

We always buy our furniture in cash, too. It takes a little longer to decorate that way but it is so worth it not to have debt hanging over your head.

Exactly, plus I think we appreciate it all more because we really get what pieces we want. It’s fun to look at it and realize we worked hard to save up for it and buy it in full :)

I have to say, I love Caribou Coffee! I have never been that impressed with Starbucks but it seems like that is what everyone is always talking about! Thumbs up on avoiding payments for furniture too! That is the best way to do it in my opinion! Looks like you had a great weekend. =)

I’m not a coffee drinker so I have a limited view on it probably, but I love Caribou much more than Starbucks too :)

My car is falling apart too — so sad :(. My parents have a membership to Costco, and they like it. It’s kind of far from where we live, so we’ll just use my parents if we ever need anything, but I think that the prices are worth it! And the food is good — that’s where we got my bridal shower cake!

Yeah I was surprised at how much organic food they sold there actually! That’s a lot of what we buy from Trader Joe’s so it made me that much more tempted to get a Costco membership.

Haven’t started decorating yet, but will probably soon! Going to enjoy Thanksgiving! :) One of my close friends recently moved to Ohio and she called me to tell me that she had found the following: Costco, Starbucks and a Dunkin Donuts. I am already planning a trip!
I love Jillians DVD’s!

My husband and I have a membership to Costco and love it! We go through a lot of bread and milk, so those are pretty much weekly purchases. We also buy our paper products (toilet paper, paper towel, etc), peanut butter, meat, cheese, and eggs from there too with the occasional “special purchases”. I think it’s easy to get caught up in all of their great products and you can end up spending an arm and a leg if you’re not careful. BUT if you’re good I think it can be a great way to save some money!

P.S. What is your apple crisp recipe?! Looks yummy!

That’s what we’re thinking of using a membership for too–the ‘basics’ that we always buy/need. I can totally see how it would be easy to spend WAY too much there though!
I’m tweaking the apple crisp recipe a little bit yet but I’ll share it soon! :)

Joshua and I are the exact same way when it come to purchasing things & buying them instead of setting up payment plans. I just feel if you are going to buy something, make sure to have the money then. I mean what if something would come up & you could no longer afford the payments ya know?

Glad you & J had such a great weekend together. I can’t get over big that Reeses pack is. 2400 calories.. crazy! I’m sure it’s worth every bite though :)

We both love anything with the pb/chocolate combo but when it was in such a bulk size like that it grossed us out! haha So we didn’t buy the candy bar, just had a good laugh at it :)
