Good morning, friends.
As I was scrolling through the Healthy Living section of Huffington Post this morning, I found so many great articles. I thought about talking about one here today (the last one on this list about the MyPlate government guidelines), but I just couldn’t ignore the others. I decided I’d just share the links to all of the interesting ones I found so you can check them all out!
As I’m sure you can guess, the first article here specifically stood out to me:
- The Healthiest Way to Sit — I definitely need to work on my posture.
- Winter Health: Tips for Healthier Skin and hair — my skin has the hardest time during the winter, my hands get so incredibly dry they hurt!
- Elite Athletes have Better Thinking Skills than University Students
- The Importance of Cooling Down, Avoid Gym Germs, and More — I think cooling down after a workout gets easily overlooked too often
- Trick to Stop Cravings — I have a hard time believing this trick would work for me, but I suppose it’s worth a shot?
- 10 Scary Affects of Stress – yikes.
- One man is following the MyPlate Guidelines exactly for one week — I have mixed feelings about that MyPlate graphic anyway, so this definitely struck me as interesting. I definitely plan to check back in later this week and see how it went for him.

What do you think of the MyPlate (formerly MyPyramid) graphic/recommendations?
Were you surprised by that first article about vegetarians being less likely to have heart disease?

I liked the last article- really interesting! I am taking a nutrition course right now so I actually had to use SuperTracker to track my food intake last week for an assignment. I think MyPlate is a good guideline but it really depends on the person as well and what works best. Personally, I focus on maintaining a balance between eating and exercise, eating until I am ~70% full and eating healthily with little occasional indulgences.
Good for you, girl!! I struggle with finding that feeling of feeling satisfied and not full, but I’ve gotten so much better at it in the past year. Consciously choosing to eat slower helps a ton!
Blast! Posture. It’s one thing I always need to be working on. Just you listing it here made me sit up straight, so thanks. I need a constant reminder!
I need a reminder often too! Sometimes I actually stick a post-it to my computer for a few days that just says “POSTURE CHECK!” :)
As a vegetarian who has done a lot of research, I was not surprised about the health findings in the first article. Vegetarians generally tend to be healthy and live longer. Of course, one can be an unhealthy eater and still be a vegetarian, so the quality of food and life definitely still matters! I like reading articles like what you posted, though. It makes me feel good about my lifestyle choice! :)
I SO need to work on my posture. It’s almost embarrassing! :/
I wasn’t surprised by it but I definitely think it’s still interesting. And yes, a “vegetarian” eating style can be a great thing or it can really be bad if a person is just eating anything that isn’t meat, like you said…Reading that made me pretty proud of how I eat too, though I know there’s always room for improvement! :)
I don’t know…it can be really hard to take just one bite of ANYTHING. [Even things that don't taste good you almost want to taste again, just to be sure. :)]
I will say that just the smell of pulled pork causes, but eliminates, any cravings this current vegan (with benefits)/former meat-eater has for meat.
Oh, I am intrigued by the idea of following the guidelines so closely. I will have to check back on that too! [Or maybe you can just post about it...]
I get SO grossed out by meat now too….I don’t even know where that came from but unless it’s seafood (and even that sometimes), it makes my stomach flip. Bleh.
