friday randomness

by Danica on November 1, 2013

Happy Friday!

I haven’t done a post like this in a while, but they’re pretty fun, so here’s just a random list of things running through my mind…

1.  Our godson turns TWO today!  How did that even happen?!

Preston - 2 years old!

he was a golfer for Halloween :)

2.  We spent our Halloween night at a friend’s house – we had pizza, drinks (wine for me – this bottle of Stella Rosa was really good by the way), and a “scary” movie (though it was more bizarre than scary).  Oh, and us old people called it a night around 9:30.  Party hard!

3.  I want to wish a big Congratulations to Brittany on her exciting news!!

4.  I’m thankful for dates with my husband…Last weekend, as I mentioned earlier this week, we had to make a trip to the Mall of America to get my computer repaired.  We expected the trip to last a few hours, but due my computer needing more fix-it time than expected, we spent several more hours at the mall than anticipated.  We made the best of it though with lunch, shopping, dessert, and just enjoying each other’s company.  It’s so important to have time with just each other – dates definitely improve our relationship.

5.  Love this, so much:

If tomorrow... quote

6.  And speaking of things I love, you should take a minute to read THIS POST from Tina.  It’s beautiful, and I couldn’t agree more with her.

7.  Since my last half marathon, I haven’t been running as much and have been switching up my workouts – I forgot how hard biking/spinning can be!

stationary bike workout

8.  The cookbook I won from Hannah‘s giveaway arrived!  Can’t wait to try its recipes – they all look so good!

The China Study Cookbook

9.  November 1st already…I’m actually getting really excited for Christmas.  I love getting together with family, but Thanksgiving isn’t my favorite holiday.  I’m wondering how early is okay to set up Christmas decorations…when do you set up yours?!

10.  The Shaytards had their baby!!!!!  You MUST go watch THIS VIDEO – prepare to both laugh and cry.  It’s just amazing.

11.  this:

Today I Will Choose Joy

Have a great weekend, friends!

My brother wants to set up decorations today. he thinks if Fall can last 2 months, then Christmas most definitely can. He already started putting lights up in the house last week! Haha I haven’t been over to see it, but goodness, gracious! I do love Christmas, and received some pretty awesome decorations last year for Christmas so I am really excited to decorate. I’m a little nervous about our tree though with a wild kitten this year! Gonna be nuts, thats for sure.

I’m worried about that with Zida now too – she already wants to chew up everything, I don’t want her to think she can do that with the Christmas tree!
I was just talking about this last night…I wish that Thanksgiving was like at the beginning of November so that the Christmas season was more than just a month long!

Your godson is adorable and I love the golfing Halloween costume idea! Super cute!

I totally agree with having dates with our significant others, they really do help a marriage/ relationship. It’s important to have alone quality time together and bonding!

Love that quote, I saw Becky over at Olives n’ Wine post it I believe last week and I was in love with it also. It’s so true!

Have a fabulous weekend! : )

I first found the quote from Becky, too – every time I read it it just really makes me think!

Yay for vegan cookbooks!! You will have to let me know what you cook and what you like since I have only made it through a few recipes so far!

I definitely will! I like how practical most of them are, you know? They’re mostly ingredients that I just usually have around my house – I love cookbooks like that :)

I SO agree!! I never end up making recipes from cookbooks that are super complicating.

me neither. If it’s not practical, I just kind of think, “what’s the point?”
It may take me a bit to get through some of the recipes in this book, but I’ll definitely let you know which ones I love! :)

Have a great weekend, girl!

Date nights are definitely vital to a great relationship. Even if I’m not feeling like it, we always get one in once a week. I always glag we went afterwards!

Once a week is great! We typically go out on a date night about once a month, but at least once a week we do some kind of “at home date night” – catch up on the dvr together, cook dinner and eat together, watch a movie, etc. It’s certainly important!

I usually wait until the first of November or so before I set up my Christmas decorations, but I know what you mean about being ridiculously excited for it this year. I blame stores and the fact that they’re already busting out all the Christmas stuff… It was a little weird to go shopping and see the skeletons hanging out with Santa.

Tell me about it! I went to Hobby Lobby last week, which was a good week before Halloween – there were 2 aisles of Fall decor on sale and then the rest of the store was bursting with Christmas decor! I mean, I love Christmas, but it was weird to see so much of it when we hadn’t even had Halloween yet. It makes “being present” a little more challenging :)

I love the “choose joy” mantra – it speaks volumes to me! I’m craving a date day, but it is hard with my school schedule + working…I’m really hoping we can make mini dates throughout the month.

We only go out for a date night about once a month, but we make a purpose of doing little “mini dates” at home – cook and eat dinner together, watch a show on the dvr, watch a redbox movie, go for a little watch…anything that gets us away from “life” and just helps us enjoy each other’s company…I hope you can get in at least a little mini date sometime soon! It’ll be worth the time :)

I listened to about 1/2 of The China Study (audio book) but I had to stop because it just became so repetitive and dull. I definitely agree with the overall health message of the book; however I think it’d could’ve been condensed quite a bit. That said, I bet that cookbook has some great recipes! I’ll have to check it out from my library :) Also, I had no idea who the Shaytards were before watching that video but I’m so glad you shared it! So sweet and I loved that they captured the whole process!

Yeah I could see how that would be – that’s how I feel when I read Michael Pollan’s books. I think his ideas and points are great, but it’s just so repetitive that it gets almost annoying haha

Aren’t the Shaytards the best?! Love them.
