Five Friday Favorites

by Danica on January 31, 2014

Well, after Tuesday’s and Thursday’s posts, I think I may have lost most of my readers :/

That’s (mostly) a joke, but boy did I get some upset/angry emails.

Anyone who knows me and has been reading this blog for anytime knows that my intent is never to offend or judge anyone.  I just love topics that make me think and challenge my opinions, so I’m naturally excited to write about those same topics.  I hope that I didn’t truly upset anyone.

*****

I feel like I’ve never really gotten in a groove with my Friday posts.  I want for them to be lighter and more fun, but my “Friday Favorites” post link-up isn’t doing it for me lately.  I’ve decided that I’m going to put a little different spin on my FF post and share five random things that I’m loving lately…inspired by Katie’s weekly link-up.

1.  this granola:

Purely Elizabeth granola - gluten-free

It’s so hard to put the bag down once I start eating it!  It has to be the best bag of granola I’ve ever had.  It’s rare that I buy granola anymore even, just because it’s so easy to make my own batch, but this stuff was absolutely worth the purchase – yum!!

2.  that February is just about here!  January is the one month out of the year that I really just don’t like.  The holidays are over, there’s nothing in particular to look forward to, the weather is terrible and prevents me from not only being outside ever but it also gets in the way of plans, SAD comes into play easily, and anyway, I’m just excited February is about here.  We have some fun things coming up this month!

3.  that I’m running again!  I’m starting to slowly build up some endurance and consistency with running, and it feels so good!!

3-mile run

4.  this list of 16 Books to Read Before they hit Theaters this Year  <– I added a bunch of these to my reading list!

5.  The Blend Retreat location has been announced…Park City, Utah and I’m planning to make it this year!  I can’t wait to see some of my blogging friends again and meet plenty of new ones!

If you’re a blogger, are you planning to go to the Blend Retreat this year?

Tell me 3 things you’re doing this weekend!

That’s a bummer about the upset/angry emails, but you just need to be you and have your own opinions.

We’re heading up to MA for the weekend and going in to Boston for the day tomorrow. Hope you have a great weekend!

That sounds like a fun weekend! We did a little traveling, too – it’s fun to get away for a bit!

I’m definitely checking into the Blend Retreat. However, to fly from Pgh and then get a hotel and such.. I’m not sure if I can afford it :(

I can completely understand that – the flights to get out there from MN are pretty darn expensive, too!

I’m sorry you got some hate emails on your posts. :( Don’t let people get you down, I love all of your posts, and I love that you voice your opinion! I would love to go to the Blend Retreat, but I don’t think there is any way I could afford it. :(

And I can definitely understand about the pricing. I’m not excited about how much flights are from MN to Utah :(

Ooooh…yes, yes I really want to go to the Blend Retreat. I’m hoping it’s not too expensive!

Three things I’m doing this weekend: making homemade granola bars, watching the super bowl and cleaning.

I agree – hopefully the tickets are pretty cheap because the airfare certainly isn’t! :/

I just found out that Blend is in Park City, which is like 30 mins MAX from me!! I think that means I have to go :) It may be a bit of a financial sacrifice since I may be going to Europe the next week, but I feel like I can’t give up the chance with it being so close.
If people want to get angry and upset that’s their problem. You’ve never done or said anything maliciously on this blog and you’ve always been very clear that you are simply sharing your experience and your opinions. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with them. :( Angry people are no fun.

Don’t let the upset/angry emails get you down. I feel like you were really clear about your intentions prior to the actual video – people will always find something to complain about. :(

I also added a lot of those books to my reading list. I have already read: The Fault In Our Stars, The Giver, Divergent, Gone Girl and Wild but I want to read Labor Day and This Is Where I Leave You. :)

Yikes. Sorry about those upset emails, but I guess that’s the risk you run when you post on such a sensitive topic to a lot of women. Since I’m a big fan of my BC and what it’s done for me, I chose to skip it, because I’m not about making myself angry for no reason. Hope some of your folks come back if they ARE upset though.

I’m sorry to hear about the emails and comments, hun. As someone who uses birth control and honestly doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon, I wasn’t offended in the least by your vlog yesterday and never once thought you were judgmental or anything else. You were just sharing your experiences and thoughts and some important facts that people should be aware of, and I was glad to learn a lot of that so that I can be better informed and pay attention in my own life, so thank you for sharing and I hope you continue to do so!

I have kind of the opposite thoughts on february though haha. It’s notoriously a rough month for me, so I am slightly dreading the start of it. At least it’s a short month :P I’m glad to hear that running is coming along! I’m getting back into my usual running groove, too, and it feels awesome :) Have a great weekend hun!!

Thanks, Caitlin – I really appreciate that, and I’m glad to hear that I didn’t come across as judgmental to you, just informative, which was my goal after all :)

Is there a certain reason you don’t like February so much? Regardless, I hope that it flies by for you!

26 Caitlin February 2, 2014 at 4:35 pm

Many things seem to go wrong in february for me ha. My car broke down last year and needed some expensive repairs, different family members have gotten sick, my eating disorder got completely out of control a few years ago in February, and so on. Historically it just hasn’t been a good one ha, but I hope this year proves me wrong!

Aw, sorry for the ugly emails/comments. I loved both posts. I love posts that really make me think and open my views to a new perspective or a thought I wouldn’t normally think.

I’m totally with you on being glad January is over. Boo…usually so dreary. Now, we have February, which is short, then on to March…first month of spring! yay! :-)
