Creamy Banana Mango Protein Smoothie {recipe}

by Danica on August 8, 2013

I’ve never been one to like pudding, but the creaminess of this smoothie reminds me of it – in a very good way.  I think it’s the avocado, or maybe the mango, combined with banana that makes it so rich and delicious :)  I’m eating it on repeat over here and just can’t get enough.  I hope you love it, too!

Creamy Banana Mango Protein Smoothie

 Creamy Banana Mango Protein Smoothie

  • 1 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 1 banana (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/3 of an avocado
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground flaxseed
  • 1/2 tablespoon wheat germ (or replace with more flaxseed)
  • a dash of cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup oats*
  • 1 (heaping) tablespoon nut butter (peanut, almond, or cashew – all are great)
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional)
  • 3/4 – 1 cup milk (any variety will work – I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk)

*be sure to use gluten-free oats for a GF version

1.  Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

2.  Pour into a glass or bowl and top with nuts or granola, if desired.

3.  Enjoy!

Whoo! :) Let me know what you think of it once you try it out!

You know what?! It sounded so good that I just HAD TO make it right away. I didn’t have wheat germ so I added hemp seeds…also no vanilla protein powder, but I used vanilla almond milk. Perfect lunch on a hot summer day – especially that I was at the dentist 2-3 hours ago and my mouth is still numb (can’t chew yet really, but a smoothie is just perfect). Thanks!

Yes I’m sure you could! That actually sounds really good…I may have to try subbing strawberries in sometime, too :) I hope you like it!

Woooow this sounds like a dream. I have never tried avocado in my smoothies, but it’s on my food bucket list so I’ve gotta get on that! Also, what kind of protein powder do you use? I need to purchase some of that as well considering I can’t make half the smoothie recipes I come across because it is a main ingredient in most haha

You have to try avocado in a smoothie asap – it’s so so good.
Right now I have the PlantFusion vanilla protein powder. You can find it for a great price on Swanson Vitamins (.com)…
I definitely like it but next I hope to find a vegan one that doesn’t contain any fructose. Overall though, it’s a good one! :)

would 1/2 scoop of a protein powder generally be about 2 tablespoons? or 3?

18 Danica August 30, 2013 at 11:16 am

1/2 a scoop is probably about 2 tablespoons.

Mmm! Banana flavored popsicles used to be my FAVORITE growing up. And I still love banana flavored fro-yo. Definitely going to have to give this a try.

I *just* tried banana froyo for the first time on Saturday night…it was delicious. of course. :)

This is for one serving right? Do you think this would be okay with Silk almond milk …and would it be okay for someone doing no exercise? (due to some stuff….). Thanks.

24 Danica August 30, 2013 at 11:17 am

Yep! One serving :) And yes, that almond milk will be perfect.
You may not need the added protein if you’re not exercising much right now, but otherwise the smoothie will be great for you! :)
