Anniversary Weekend

by Danica on June 10, 2013

We had such a great weekend over here – I hope you all did too!

It was honestly just one of the most fun weekends we’ve had in a while.  It reminded me that no matter what I’m struggling with right now, my little family is what’s most important to me, and I just feel so blessed and grateful!

Enough of being a cheeseball though…
a photo dump from the weekend for your viewing pleasure:

One year ago, we froze the top tier of our wedding cake, and this weekend we let it thaw, cut into it, and tasted it!  We didn’t expect it to be even close to edible, but actually, it tasted really good!

Zida wanted a slice too :)

My second attempt at homemade oatmeal molasses bread still didn’t rise…it still tastes great (just very dense), but I want so badly to get it right!  I immediately called my grandmother to see if she could help me solve the problem, and she did!  When I try it next I think I’ll have it figured out!  Then I can finally share the recipe with you :)

Did you know that Friday was National Donut Day?
I’m not a huge fan of donuts to be honest – I really only like homemade (baked) ones.
But on Saturday morning, Jesse and I spotted these at the Farmer’s Market and decided to pick them up.  One was vanilla and one was apple.  They were pretty good!

a little froyo happened

a trip to Whole Foods made me happy :)

we stopped at Barnes & Noble, and these are the two books I left with…I’m not going through a little crisis about what I want to do with my life or anything ;) haha

has anyone read either of these?  what’d you think of them?

What book are you reading right now?

Those of you that are married – did you save the top tier of your wedding cake?  If so, was it still good a year later?

Happy Anniversary, again! I have read and own both of those books :). I liked both of them, but of the two, Bethenny’s is my favorite!

Thank you!
I remembered when I bought the book that you’d talked about Bethenny before, and met her, right?! I’m hoping I learn a thing or two :)

Happy belated anniversary! Looks like a nice weekend :)

I started reading A Place of Yes last summer, and for some reason, I fell out of the habit of reading everyday and have yet to finish it. It’s been staring me down for a while now, and I think you’ve convinced me to pick it back up..it was a really great book and I’m going through some things now that I think some self-reflection would benefit from. I totally love turning to books! I want to read the Happiness Project too.

Jenny, you should let me know what you think of A Place of Yes once you’re finished – I have some other books I need to read first so it’ll be a little while before I get to either of these – you’ll have to share your thoughts on it!

Love your new haircut! ♥ I’ve been too busy to read lately – but I’m going to try to hit my NASM training book soon :) I think that Bethany one looks interesting!

Oh yay! Thanks so much for stopping by :)

I thought the cake would take a day or two (at least) to completely defrost but it actually only took half a day, maybe 6 hours? I was impressed!

we are reading the happiness project for book club soon (not sure what month we decided) so i’ll be reading that too.
i love all berries, coconut and chopped almonds.

We had a little 2-tier cake that we cut and then saved part of, but all of our guests had cupcakes! There were 3 different kinds and carrot cake was one of them – it’s one of my favorites!

I probably won’t get to reading the happiness project for a little while, so whenever you finish it you’ll have to let me know what you think of it!

I had frozen yogurt for the first time the other day. (well from a frozen yogurt shop) I loved it! I felt like a kid again, mixing all the sodas together! lol. I loved the white chocolate chips and granola on top! Yum!
